Whereas, The Commander in Chief of The United States has deemed it necessary to the Defense of free peoples everywhere to Deploy the 293rd  Military Police Company, 3rd Military Police Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division to Iraq

 


 

And Whereas the soldiers of the 293rd Military Police Company, 3rd Military Police Battalion while embarked upon their duty in the defense of the nation are certain to face the many hardships and discomforts of a combat zone deployment

 


 

And Whereas, We recognize these great sacrifices to be given as individuals and a unit to a Single great nation under God; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, that The American Legion JE Lanier Post No. 27, Richmond Hill, Ga. Does adopt the 293rd Military Police Company, 3rd Military Police Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, as our brothers and sisters in arms. And be it further

 

Resolved, That in support of our brothers and sisters now deployed the members of Post 27 do pray for you to do your duty swift and sure, and that God may speed you home safe, and soon;

and be it further

 

Resolved, that hence, The American Legion JE Lanier Post 27 shall Honor, Support and keep the Soldiers and families of the 293rd Military Police Company in our thoughts and prayers and provide such support as our comrades may request So say each of us, So say we all.

Adopted by the committee of the whole Post at the meeting of the whole Post on the 19th day of February in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and four in the City of Richmond Hill, the County Bryan, in the State of Georgia. The 293rd Military Police Company was activated in England on 30 December 1942. After the Normandy Invasion, the 293rd landed in France and remained in France throughout the rest of the war. The company returned to the States and was inactivated in September of 1945. Ten years later, the company was reactivated and attached to Fort Ord, California. In addition to post duties, the 293rd MP Company annually supported the Bing Crosby National Pro Am Tournament and the Laguna Seneca Races. The company was inactivated at Fort Ord on 11 June 1968. On 1 November 1970, the 293rd MP Company was activated and attached to the 519th MP Battalion at Fort Meade, Maryland.  In the Summer of 1972, the company was deployed to the New Cumberland Army Depot near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to assist in civil disturbance control during the trial of the “Harrisburg  8”. In June 1981, the company was deployed to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, for an ARTEP conducted by the 16th Military Police Group (ABN).  In December 1981, the company was deployed to Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, in support of the Cuban Refugee Operation. In August 1985, the company was deployed to Seneca Army Depot, New York, to augment security against anti-nuclear demonstrators. From June to November 1986, the 293rd Military Police Company participated in Joint Task Force Bravo, Palmerola Air Base, Honduras. From June to August 1987, a contingency force from the 293rd MP Company provided security for the Tenth Pan American Games Athlete Village and Fort Benjamin Harrison at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. From July to December 1989, the 293rd Military Police Company, with a contingent from the 209th MP Company, participated in Joint Task Force Bravo, Palmerola Air Base,  Honduras. From October 1990 to April 1991, the 293rd MP Company deployed to Saudi Arabia as part of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The company provided law enforcement support, convoy security, MSR security, battlefield circulation control, and performed those missions necessary to safeguard human lives and protect vital facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The company relocated from Ft Meade, Maryland to Ft Stewart, Georgia in August of 1992. While the company was located at Ft Stewart and as a result of their high standards, they conducted operations other than war in support of Hurricane Andrew relief in Homestead, Florida from October to November 1992, then deployed in February 1993 to Panama with a FORSCOM rotation. From August 1994 through January 1995 the company deployed to Guantonimo Bay, Cuba in support of Operation Sea Signal, controlling an influx of refugees into the United States. From June 1996 to April 1997 the company deployed under the 519th MP Battalion to Bosnia-Herzegovina in support of Operations Joint Endeavor/Joint Guard. During this deployment the unit completed over 1100 missions and drove over 360,000 miles ensuring the implementation of the Dayton Peace Accord. From August 1998 to May 1999, 1/293d MP CO deployed to Kuwait as part of Task Force 3-15 and Intrinsic Action. From September 1999 to November 1999the company deployed in support of the Bright Star training mission to Egypt where they conducted convoy security, force protection, military customs and security of the Joint Exercise Control Cell, Lucky Main. The company responded to the 911 terrorist attacks with a no notice deployment in support of Operation Noble Eagle.  293d Military Police Company deployed in 12 hours to the Pentagon, providing support to the Defense Protective Service. The company’s primary mission was providing security and force protection to the Pentagon from 20 September 2001 till 20 April 2002.   On February 26, 2003, the 293D deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  During this deployment the unit provided security for Persons Under US Control and conducted combat support operations for 2/505 PIR, 82ND ABN DIV, 3D SF Group, and 10TH MTN DIV.  The company redeployed back to Fort Stewart, GA on 3 SEP 03.
