Veterans Children Scholarship Application
Eligibility
-
Applicant must be a High School Senior
attending an accredited Public, Private, Parochial, or an Approved Home School
in the South Bryan County Area.

Applicant must be son or daughter of an Active
Duty, or honorably discharged veteran of any of the Armed Forces of The United
States, including, Active, Reserve, or National Guard of the Army, Navy, Air
Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard.

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative
Grade Point Average (GPA) un-weighted on a 4.0 scale and meet all requirements
of the Hope Scholarship/Grant.

Applicant must be accepted by an accredited
institution of Post Secondary Education for the fall 2003 semester.

Children of Post 27 members residing outside
the South Bryan County Area may be granted waivers of local school attendance
and Hope Scholarship eligibility.
Application Shall Include:

A Completed JE Lanier Application Form
A photocopy of the scholarship application form is acceptable.

Essay:
Approximately 500 word essay on the following
subject: “How does the Phrase ‘Duty, Honor, and Country” fit into to your
future goals.”

Character References:
Submit at least 3 and no more than five
written letters of recommendation/character reference form any of the
following: School Teacher, Guidance Counselor,
Community Leader, Athletic Coach, Extra
Curricular activity Leader, Religious Leader, Work Supervisor or employer. No
more than two of the total submitted may originate from teachers counselors or
school activities.

Transcripts:
A full High School Transcript that includes
Fall 2001 grades, current CGPA, and class standing. Note: If school is sending
your transcript under separate cover it Must be Postmarked no later than
15 April 2004.

Awards, Extra-curricular, Work Experience, and
Community Service activities: On a
separate page please list and describe your Extra-curricular, Work Experience,
and Community Service activities, include the nature of the enterprise, your
role in it, and any Awards you may have received. Please provide enough
information so the Scholarship committee can understand your accomplishments.

Copy of ACT, SAT, or other Qualifying Scores:
A copy of your scores from the testing agency
or a Certified Letter from your High School included with your transcript.

Two Self Addressed #10 Business Envelopes with
First Class Postage Properly Affixed:
We will
use them to acknowledge receipt of your
application and to notify you of the results of the competition.

Verification of Veterans Status:
Include photocopy of at least one of the
following, Sponsors DD-214, Sponsors or applicants Military ID card, or
Membership card in any recognized Veterans Organization, (American Legion,
VFW, Fleet Reserve, etc..)

All Applicants must submit a
completed application package Postmarked no later than 15
April 2004. Incomplete or late applications
will not be considered.
