I just finished my last planned semester at Mercer last week. Since they don't have my planned major, I am planning on possibly transferring to GA Southern this next semester (Spring 2003) and continuing my education there for the rest of my undergraduate career hopefully.  I finished a lot of core classes at Mercer, but I will have to take those few GA Southern classes to meet GA Southern's requirements.

They have a really good program in the pre-medicine field, and they also have my Public Relations major (B.S.). I am really pleased with their curriculum from what I see, so I am waiting to see how things work out excitedly! Anyway, I
came out of Mercer's Fall semester pulling out a 3.1 Mercer GPA (adjusted because of the plus scale system), so by HOPE's standards I have a 2.975 something which I am working on to raise. Mercer's tough, no one was lying
there. I attended Armstrong Atlantic State University this past summer and took three classes (General Chemistry 2, General Chemistry 2 Lab, and Calculus) and did very well as a transient student.

At Mercer this past semester, I was a BIG part of the Meet Mercer programs: I was part of a 13 student team that were titled "para professional" to the Admission's Counselors (we were little admission's counselors basically). It was a paid position (making the highest amount of money on campus) as well as the best leadership position anyone could hold on campus. It was practically the most wanted job on campus. I was the head of campus tours and was the leader of a 20 person team who actually hosted students to advertise Mercer. It was a lot of fun and a good Public Relations experience!:-) Anyway, I was also a part of the Baptist Student Union this past semester. I wish I could've done more, but my job and academic life consumed a BIG part of my life. I didn't want to get in over my head. But things went really well. Now I get to hit the oh-so-exciting Organic Chemistry and Biology classes soon!

This is Brandice James, and I'm a freshman at Georgia Southern University.  I have a 2.12 GPA because chemistry and I did not get along.  I have changed my major to psychology from nursing because I recently discovered I have a very queasy stomach.  I have adjusted well to living away from home, which makes it interesting when I come home because I want to continue being independent and my own person.  During the last football season you would have found me every other Saturday (all GSU home games) cheering on the Eagles in the Band.  I plan to continue with color guard throughout my college career.  I hope that maybe sometime next season all of you can come out and see me twirl my flag, and help cheer on the GSU Eagles as we try again for a national championship.  Go Eagles!

Things are doing very well at school (UGA).  My GPA is at a 3.66 and although its my first semester out of high school, because of summer classes and last year's dual enrollment I have the hours to be considered a Junior now.  I am still majoring in genetics, though I have added a double major in microbiology.  Also, beginning this summer I will be working with Dr. Nancy Manley in her genetics lab researching the development of the thymus and parathyroid using transgenic mice.  This is an awesome opportunity available through the honors program and one I am very excited about.  Life away from home is going fine, though I find myself going through the apartment and turning off appliances and lights to save money constantly:)
